All About Poshmark

I have been using Poshmark for a little under a year now and I am OBSESSED. For those of you who aren't familiar with Poshmark, it's an app for selling and/or buying clothes, shoes, jewelry, makeup, handbags, etc for men, women, and even children. I've tried selling things on sites like eBay before but I never had any luck.

With Poshmark, I sold items right away. Basically, you list your item with pictures, a small description, and both the price you purchased the item for and the price you are selling your item for. Poshmark recommends pricing items 50-60% lower than what you bought it for. People on the app are looking to purchase things quickly and for as little money as possible. So that can be a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it.

My thinking is always, "you're making more money on it than if it was just laying in your closet collecting dust." However, that doesn't mean you should just give an item away, especially if it's designer. Often times, those items are worth the wait until you find the right buyer.

Poshmark provides you with a 1-2 day shipping label for free which is a huge convenience. The label gets sent to your email within seconds after making a purchase. It really couldn't be easier. Poshmark does take a certain percentage out of what you sell- about 20% I believe. So, that is the only downside but they need to make their money somehow.

I would greatly recommend Poshmark to anyone who has clothes or accessories lying around that they don't wear or use anymore. Instead of just sitting in your closet, you can make some real money off of it in a relatively painless way. Since I started using Poshmark in August 2016, I earned a total of $2,834. (I just checked the app to get the exact amount.) And that's all from selling items I would have otherwise just given away for free. I've sold things for my sister, my mom (she's the real MVP because she lets me keep the money I make from her things), and even my cousin.

Once you start using Poshmark you'll seriously become addicted, just like I am!

For someone just starting to use the app, here are a few tips:

1. Don't TRADE items. This can seem like a great idea and sometimes it may even work out, but it's very risky. Trades are not supported by Poshmark so if the other person decides not to send their item to you and tries to scam you there's nothing Poshmark can do about it.

2. Package the items nicely. I always include a thank you card with each sale to thank the seller for shopping in my closet. It's a nice touch to make the experience seem more personable and I've had multiple people tell me they would love to shop in my closet again because of my thank you note and fast shipping.

3. Do Giveaways. This idea just came to me when I saw I was trying to sell some really cheap items that weren't getting any likes or comments. Often times I run a promotion saying, "A free bracelet comes with any purchase." It's an added bonus for potential buyers and if it's an item with little value, or better yet was gifted to you, it won't hurt you.
