How To Combat Dry Skin

If the Winter chill has given you chronically dry skin, I'm your girl. For the past month, my skin has been extremely dry and it seemed like nothing was working. Every moisturizer seemed to keep my skin hydrated for about ten minutes, and then the dry patches would come out again. Makeup looked terrible on my skin closeup because you could see the cracks and lines from underneath.

So, I tried a bunch of different beauty products until I found ones that did the trick. Items so good I want to shout them from the rooftops. But, I can't, so I'll just tell you guys instead.

Dry skin is itchy, flaky, uncomfortable, and not all ideal. So if you're dealing with this, I feel your pain, but don't worry I've got you covered.

Here are my favorite products for getting rid of dry skin...and keeping it away:

First things first, it's all about the moisturizer. Normally, I love Neutrogeana's HydraBoost or Rodan + Fields' Soothe Moisturizer. However, when this severely dry skin set in, both of those products failed me. First Aid Beauty's Sleeping Cream saved me!

This sleeping cream has a soft, buttery consistency and works to hydrate skin, increase firmness, and reduce the appearance of fine lines or wrinkles. I applied, and continue to apply, it as the lest step in my beauty routine before bed, and overnight, my skin would miraculously improve. I highly recommend the Sleeping Cream for anyone looking for more hydrated, glowing skin.

Once you found a solid moisturizer, you need to find a hydrating, repairitive mask to use a few times a week. This mask is a godsend. A few of you have reached out to me saying you used this mask after I first recommended it and it did wonders for your skin. I'm telling you, your skin will love this!

This mask is meant to recharge dehydrated skin while you sleep. Basically, you just concentrate on catching some Z's and the mask does the rest for you. ("Catching Z's"? Am I kidding?)

I use this mask twice a week before bed, in place of moisturizer because I think this mask plus moisturizer would be too much. The Laneige Sleeping Mask comes with a tiny spatula to apply the product. Then, after a few seconds it will dry and in the morning you just rinse it off before washing your face. It has a very cooling, smooth feel on your skin.

In order to let new, healthy skin shine through, you need to get rid of the dry skin that's blocking it. Exfoliate, Exfoliate, ExfoliKate. (See what I did there?)

My favorite exfoliating tool is Rodan + Field's Microdermabrasion Tool, which I showed you guys on Insta Stories a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, R+F discontinued the tool but you can find a few for sale on Ebay or Poshmark.

ExfoliKate is an awesome alternative exfoliator. You can use the product once or twice a week and it makes your skin feel baby smooth. I was skeptical at first because the full sized bottle costs $175. (The $24 mini bottle is more than enough). However, I received it in my Winter FabFitFun box and after giving it a try, instantly felt a difference. The product is strong so make sure you're following directions closely and don't leave it on too long. Also, expect some uncomfortable tingling.

If you're not trying to spend money and want a household item that can do the trick, Vaseline is your new best friend. Apply Vaseline at the end of your beauty routine to any dry areas on your face. Don't try to rub it in, let in sit on your skin. Then leave it overnight and let the Vaselie soak into your skin and do its thing. It really does help and is ideal for anyone trying to get rid of dehydrated skin without reaching into their wallets.

Some other helpful tips are stay away from really hot or really cold water, try to shower and wash your face with medium temp water. Also, don't use any rough towels on your skin, instead use cotton rounds when washing your face or removing makeup.

I hope these products and pieces of advice help if your skin is suffering from the cold, harsh weather. As always, let me know if you end up trying any of these products or remedies!
